I have received a despatch from General Head-

quarters on the subject of the piracy of the 3.5.

"Anking" to the effect that it had been reported that

Messrs. Butterfield & Swire's steamer "Anking" had been

pirated early on September 26th near the Taichow inlet and

the Naval Commander-in-Chief, Chan Chak, now stated that

he had at once ordered the gunboat "Hai Fu" to proceed to

the spot and carefully search the neighbourhood. The

two gunboats "Kwang Kong" and "P'ing Nan" had also been

ordered to proceed thither from Bias Bay and cooperate in the
